In the accumulated result from March to the 28th, soybean exports from Brazil totaled 11.5 million tons, according to data released by Anec, who stressed that the operations at the ports are normal, despite logistical concerns related to measures to combat the coronavirus .

March shipments from Brazil, the world’s largest soy exporter, are expected to help alleviate a shortage of raw materials in China, the world’s largest oil importer, after Brazilian exports in February were relatively weak.

Based on port schedules, the entity projected shipments of over 1.6 million tons in the last three days of the month, which would bring the total to 13.1 million tons exported in March.

The monthly record for soybean exports from Brazil is approximately 12.3 million tons, recorded in May 2018, according to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex).

Anec also said in a note that all ports operate normally, adopting the security measures established by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) to prevent coronavirus.

Although the port situation is normal, the sector has been concerned with logistics to transport the product to the ports, since truck drivers have found a shortage of services at highway stations, as a result of the restrictive measures to trade.

Closing service stations for truck drivers has high transportation costs, as many drivers stop taking trips without knowing if they will find infrastructure along the way, according to a statement by the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove), which represents the soy sector .
